Steve Hayward, Chairman of the PPA, explains that the PPA and the Rotary Club of Claremont are the beneficiaries of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, organizes of, amongst others, the annual Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour. The PPA uses any profits received in this way to run the Association and to fund specific cycling projects.  “From 2010 – 2011, the PPA plans to plough over R1.6 million back into some 36 cycling projects, with the Schapenberg MTB Trail being one of them.  We are delighted with initiatives such as this one and wish cyclists many happy hours of riding on these trails,” said Hayward.  The funding partner for these mountain bike trails is Wines2Whales (Pty) Ltd, which is also committed to supporting the development of mountain biking in the area.

In addition the Trail offers marketing opportunities for on-route wineries (Waterkloof, Journeys End, Idiom and Onderkloof) and accommodation venues (Peacock Cottage, Bezweni Lodge, Ongegund Conference Centre and Onderkloof Cottage).
